01 Why it matters
What you don’t see
Your dryer's lint trap catches a lot, not everything. The finest fibres get through and, with the moisture from wet clothes, stick to the vent walls, in the elbows and behind the outside flap. Load after load, the passage narrows.
A dryer has to push out hot, moist air to work. When the vent is half blocked, clothes take longer to dry, the dryer runs hotter and longer, and its parts wear out sooner.
Above all, lint is highly flammable. Built up in a hot vent close to the heating element, it is a real fire risk. That's why a dryer vent should be cleaned on a schedule, not "when we think of it".
02 Signs
Time for a cleaning?
- 01Clothes take longer to dry, or need a second cycle
- 02The dryer is unusually hot to the touch
- 03Burning smell while it runs
- 04Lint around the outside vent
- 05The outside flap doesn't open properly
- 06More than a year since the last cleaning
03 Our method
Four steps, every time.

From outside
We work from the vent outlet outside the house. No need to move the dryer.
Rotary nozzle, never a brush
We only use rotary compressed-air nozzles. A brush can damage or tear a vent; the nozzle removes lint without harming it.
End to end
The nozzle travels through every section and elbow. Lint is pushed out and removed completely.
Airflow and flap checked
We test the airflow and check the outside flap to confirm the vent is clear.

05 Questions
Dryer vents: your questions
01How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
Once a year for most households. With a large family or daily use, every 6 months may be needed.
02How much does dryer vent cleaning cost?
$150 alone, before tax. $75 with a mini-split, and free with duct cleaning, an air exchanger, a central system or two mini-splits or more.
03Do I need to move my dryer?
No. The cleaning is done from outside the house, without moving the appliance.
04Why a rotary nozzle instead of a brush?
A brush can snag, tear or pull apart a vent. A rotary compressed-air nozzle removes lint without damaging the walls.
05My dryer smells like burning. What should I do?
Stop it and don't leave it running unattended. The smell can come from lint heating in the vent: have it cleaned. If the smell persists afterwards, have the appliance checked by a repair technician.
