01 Why it matters
What you don’t see
A ductless mini-split (what most Quebecers call a "thermopompe murale") cools the air and pulls moisture out of it at the same time. That moisture condenses on the evaporator coil, runs into the drain pan and leaves through the drain line. Meanwhile, the blower wheel pushes all the air in the room through the unit, with its dust, pet hair and cooking particles.
Filters catch some of it, not all. What gets through sticks to the wet coil fins and the blower wheel. Dark, cool and damp: mould loves it. That's usually what causes the musty smell at start-up and the black specks at the air outlet.
Over time the build-up slows the air: the unit cools and heats less well and runs longer. The drain pan and line can clog, and water ends up running down the wall. A deep cleaning fixes this at the source, where rinsing a filter never reaches.

03 Our method
Four steps, every time.
Protect and open
Wall and floor protected. We remove the front panel and filters of the indoor unit to reach the components.
Wash the indoor unit
Deep cleaning of the evaporator coil and fins, the drain pan and the drain line so water flows freely.
Blower wheel and anti-mould
The blower wheel is cleaned, then a specialized anti-mould and anti-bacterial product is applied.
Outdoor unit and check
The outdoor unit is cleaned, the unit is reassembled and we check that everything runs properly before we leave.

Mini-splits: your questions
01How often should a mini-split be cleaned?
Once a year by a professional, ideally in spring before the hot season. Rinse the filters yourself about once a month while you use the unit.
02How much does mini-split cleaning cost?
$200 for the first unit and $150 for each additional unit, before tax: $350 for two, $500 for three.
03Is the outdoor unit included?
Yes. The outdoor unit is cleaned as part of the service, at no extra charge.
04Do you clean wall-mounted heat pumps too?
Yes. Wall-mounted heat pump, ductless mini-split, wall A/C: same type of machine (an indoor head on the wall connected to an outdoor unit), same cleaning, same price.
05Why is my mini-split leaking water?
A clogged drain pan or drain line keeps the water from draining: it overflows and runs down the wall. Cleaning the pan and line is part of the service.
06Why does my mini-split smell?
Most of the time it is mould or build-up on the coil, the blower wheel or in the drain pan. The deep wash and anti-mould treatment go after the source.
